BIT is a national key university, a research-oriented university with science and engineering as the focus. It ranks top 100 among the universities in Aisan. One of the first universities to run a graduate school and receive privileged fund from the central government in the 7th, 8th and 9th “Five Year Plan.” BIT belongs both 211 and 985 project in China. It is one of China's key universities operating under the direct leadership of the State Ministry of Education. It was also selected as normal base university for enrolling international students.
